Project background
The hydropower station already had an industrial video monitoring system, but it was mainly used for viewing and playback. Operators needed to watch many cameras for long periods, making it difficult to continuously identify abnormal behavior, smoke, fire, or other potential safety risks in time.
The station also included production areas, plant buildings, dam zones, perimeter areas, and key work locations with complex spatial relationships. A traditional camera list or device-based monitoring interface could not provide operators with a clear understanding of what was happening in each physical location.
The project focused on transforming passive video surveillance into an active AI-based monitoring system through intelligent behavior analysis, panoramic positioning, perimeter protection, and alarm-video linkage.
AI video monitoring upgrade workflow
WThink first assessed the existing cameras, including image quality, viewing angle, network access, storage conditions, and protocol compatibility. Qualified camera points were then connected to edge AI analysis devices, while only critical channels were selectively upgraded to reduce unnecessary hardware replacement.
The upgraded platform supports AI safety behavior analysis for missing helmets, smoking, falls, restricted area entry, line crossing, smoke, fire, and other abnormal equipment or personnel events. When an event is detected, the system automatically shows the alarm type, time, location, snapshot, and linked video for review.
Panoramic AR mapping connects cameras, key equipment, and risk areas with a visual site view. Operators can move from a global view to a specific location and then open the related video feed, reducing the time spent searching through large camera channels.
