WThink helped upgrade an existing hydropower station video system by adding AI behavior analysis, panoramic AR positioning, perimeter protection, and alarm-video linkage, turning passive monitoring into active risk detection and remote verification.


Project background

The hydropower station already had an industrial video monitoring system, but it was mainly used for live viewing and post-event playback. Operators had to watch many channels for long periods, making it difficult to catch perimeter intrusion, unsafe behavior, smoke, fire, or abnormal site activity in time.

The station also includes production areas, plant buildings, dam zones, perimeter areas, and key work sites with complex spatial relationships. A traditional camera list or device tree could not help operators quickly connect an alarm with the real site location.

The upgrade focused on reusing existing cameras while adding AI analysis, panoramic positioning, and event-driven response capabilities.

AI video upgrade workflow

WThink first assessed the existing cameras, including image quality, viewing angle, network access, storage conditions, and protocol compatibility. Qualified camera points were connected to edge AI analysis devices, while only blind spots and critical areas were supplemented where needed.

The upgraded platform supports AI safety behavior analysis for missing helmets, smoking, falls, restricted-area entry, line crossing, smoke, fire, and abnormal equipment temperature. When an event occurs, the system automatically shows the alarm type, time, location, snapshot, and linked video for remote review.

Panoramic AR mapping connects cameras, key equipment, and risk areas with a visual site scene. Operators can move from a global view to a specific location and then open the related video feed, reducing the time spent searching through camera channels.
